Arsenal haven’t been linked with Paris Saint-Germain winger Julian Draxler in a suspiciously long time – does this mean he’s staying in France?
The Daily Star claim that Arsenal are set to sign both Draxler and Bordeaux forward, Malcom, this month.
However, they base their claims on comments from the bookies, which rarely means much. If anything, this highlights how few genuine links there have actually been between Arsenal and the German winger in this window.
While there have been plenty of signs pointing to the Gunners having genuine interest in Malcom, Draxler hasn’t been linked with a move to north London at all recently.
The 24-year-old, who signed for Paris Saint-Germain from Wolfsburg in January 2017, has been linked with a move to Arsenal since he was at Schalke in 2013.
The links over the summer seemed to stem from his lack of playing time at PSG. The Ligue 1 giants had forked out over £200m for Neymar and they had also brought Monaco forward Kylian Mbappe in on loan with the aim to sign him for almost £130m later on.
With this in mind, Draxler understandably didn’t see himself getting a look-in and allegedly wanted out.
The German has gone on to make 16 appearances (10 starts) in the league and has scored twice. He’s also featured six times in the Champions League.
Although he’d probably like to play even more, he’s most likely getting more game time than he initially expected at this stage.
Therefore, why would Draxler suddenly want to sign for Arsenal when he’s currently enjoying football at PSG, who are likely to win the Ligue 1 title?
There have been no links recently and there’s a reason for that. By the looks of things, Draxler’s staying at PSG.
