Marcus McGuane has officially joined Barcelona B.

The 18-year-old, whose contract was set to run out in the summer, has permanently joined Barcelona’s youth side.

The midfielder made his first team debut for Arsenal this season, playing a total of 12 minutes against BATE Borisov and Red Star Belgrade in the Europa League. However, after his playing time for even the u23s dried up, the teenager obviously decided it was time to move on.

McGuane had been a Gunner his entire career and has massive potential but with more and more youth players choosing to move abroad in search of regular minutes, it was only a matter of time before he called it a day.

Why hang around, potentially stagnating in north London waiting for another big chance when you could sign for another club and get straight into their starting line-up?

The teenager was pictured in a Barca kit earlier today (Tuesday) after reports emerged that he was off to Spain on Monday night, so the move isn’t exactly a massive surprise but it’s still a shame.

We wish Marcus all the best at his new club and hope to see him flourish.
