German football pundit Marc Behrenbeck believes that Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could have an attitude problem.
Aubameyang is said to be a target for Arsenal during the January transfer window. He’s been prolific at Dortmund for a few years now and not someone any club would sell easily.
According to Behrenbeck, Dortmund are open to a sale due to the striker’s poor attitude. “Dortmund knows that there won’t be a future for Aubameyang at Dortmund,” he told Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk podcast.
“He was unpunctual again. Afterwards he said he didn’t know about the team meeting but everybody knows about it.
“It is a problem that he has been unpunctual since day one. He had three coaches since the last few years, Peter Stoger, Peter Bosz and Thomas Tuchel and every coach had to suspend him. It says a lot about his philosophy and character.”
Aubameyang was suspended by Peter Bosz in November for ill-discipline. He was suspended again, this time by new manager Peter Stoger, for failing to turn up to a team meeting.
It’s only this year that his attitude has been a problem for Dortmund. In previous seasons, whatever issues he may have caused clearly didn’t affect his performances on the pitch.
Even this season, he remains Dortmund’s top scorer by some distance. It may suggest that he’s prone to misbehaving when things aren’t going well. BVB have struggled for consistency this season and have suffered some poor results.
With Arsenal also struggling, his potential attitude problems are something that the club would need to be aware of should they sign him. After Alexis Sanchez, the last thing the Gunners need is another moody player.
