Guillem Balague believes today will be a crucial day in the Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang saga, adding that Arsenal are confident of signing the striker and willing to meet his asking price.

Aubameyang could be a surprise target for Arsenal this month, with the Borussia Dortmund forward seemingly doing his best to engineer a move. According to Spanish journalist Guillem Balague, today will be the day we find out if Dortmund are interested in selling or not.

“He wants to go to Arsenal which are willing to pay even €60m,” he said, as reported by the Daily Star. “Tomrrow they will find out if Dortmund wants to sell quickly, slowly or not at all. Arsenal [are] optimistic.”

There are still doubts about how reliable Arsenal’s interest is. Aubameyang is a fine forward who would certainly strengthen the team, but wouldn’t be an exact replacement for Alexis Sanchez.

In addition, Arsenal spent £52m to sign Alexandre Lacazette just last summer. It’s worth noting the Gunners haven’t been the only club to be linked with him. The Gabon international has had several suitors in the past, most notably Chelsea and Liverpool.

He’s also been strongly linked with a move to China. Despite his disciplinary issues, he’s still a key player for Borussia Dortmund. He has 13 goals in 15 appearances this season, and will be needed if they’re to finish in the Champions League places this season.

Arsenal managing to sign him in January would be a real surprise.
