Wellington Silva has completed a medical with Internacional, and is waiting for the final paperwork to go through. Arsenal will profit from the transfer, courtesy of a buyback clause.
We reported Silva’s move to Internacional a couple of weeks ago, but now their vice-president has confirmed the deal.
Roberto Melo told correiodopovo.com.br: “The player came to Porto Alegre on Wednesday, did tests and the medical department approved all of them. The player’s manager was in Laranjeiras to try to send the transfer documentation, but it was not possible.
“So, we are waiting for next week. The document from Arsenal arrived this week and Fluminense authorized the athlete to travel to take the exams. What is missing is this document and we look forward to it on Tuesday.”
Arsenal have a buy-back clause with Fluminense, Silva’s current club. In July, the Gunners planned to trigger the clause and sell on to Bordeaux. However, that move broke down, and the player returned to Brazil.
Internacional are now interested, so the same deal is set to happen again, hence the vice-president’s confirmation of documents from Arsenal, despite the 24-year-old’s permanent move away from North London.
Hopefully, this move should work out for all parties. There’s no word on how much Arsenal will make from the deal, but any money is better than nothing. Plus, the winger has been in and out of the team with Fluminense.
He started 11 out of league games last season, racking up just 82 minutes of football in the final 13 Serie A matches of 2017. As a result, he needs a fresh start, and hopefully Internacional can give him one.
