Arsenal will reportedly offer Olivier Giroud and £30m to try and convince Borussia Dortmund to sell them Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, as they bid to replace Alexis Sanchez.

According to various reports, the Gunners want to replace Alexis with the Gabon international. Chelsea and Manchester United are both in for the Chilean, but Wenger doesn’t want to let him go without bringing someone in.

Signing a player who has 61 goals in his last 69 games would be a smart choice. The S*n claim they’ll use Giroud in the deal, so Dortmund don’t have to find a new striker elsewhere.

On the surface, that seems to be a deal that benefits everyone. The Frenchman gets the game time he needs ahead of the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The German club get a motivated centre-forward from a top European club.

Ignoring that The S*n are an awful source, I’m not entirely sure Giroud suits Dortmund’s style. Aubameyang is pacey and loves a counter-attack. For all of the Arsenal man’s strengths, neither of those things apply to him.

Both players are strong in the air, but that’s about where the similarities end. Perhaps the Bundesliga side see a way they can adapt the way they play for Giroud. If they don’t, I can’t see this deal happening.
