Arsenal have reportedly reignited their interest in Borussia Dortmund striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, despite Arsene Wenger insisting a deal wasn’t a possibility last week.

When questioned about Arsenal’s apparent interest in Aubameyang last week, Wenger claimed it’s simply not a possibility.

The Frenchman hasn’t convinced Tutto Mercato Web though, as the outlet are still reporting that Arsenal are after the 28-year-old as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez.

The Chilean is expected to sign for Manchester City this month, with the Gunners said to be demanding £35m as the 29-year-old has six months left on his existing contract.

Speaking of contracts, Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc recently let slip that Aubameyang has already signed an extension with the Bundesliga club, perhaps in a bid for them to get more money when he leaves.

The Gabon international would apparently set Arsenal back £58m, which in today’s transfer market seems like pennies. Aubameyang signed for Dortmund from Saint-Étienne in 2013, and has scored a stunning 21 goals in 23 appearances across all competitions this season.

Last term, he netted 40 in 46, the season before that 39 in 49, and the campaign before that 25 in 46. He’s not only consistently banging in goals, he’s improving. And at the age of 28, he’s probably only just reached his peak.

If Arsenal were to sign the Dortmund man, most Gooners would forget Alexis’ name.
