Julio Pleguezuelo is set to join Segunda club Nàstic on loan until the end of the season.
Gimnàstic de Tarragona, often referred to as Nàstic, are reportedly set to make their fifth reinforcement of the winter transfer window by bringing in Pleguezuelo on loan.
The 21-year-old centre-back, who joined Arsenal’s youth side from Barcelona in 2013, spent last season out on loan at Mallorca, so a return to Spain makes sense.
The youngster is allegedly over in Catalonia having his medical with Nàstic, who sit in 17th place in Spain’s second division, having landed on Monday morning.
Despite making 12 appearances for Arsenal’s u23s this term, Pleguezuelo is yet to impress enough to even make the bench for the first team. Considering his age, this needs to change if he wants a future in north London.
Last season, he made 15 La Liga appearances for Mallorca in Spain’s third tier, so hopefully a return to his home country for another six months will do him good.
Nàstic have already signed Álvaro Vázquez, 26, on loan from Espanyol; Matilla, 29; Javi Márquez, 31; and César Arzo, 32.
The Spanish side obviously mean business.
Hopefully, Pleguezuelo will get some proper game time despite being the baby of the bunch.
