Corinthians midfielder Maycon could be a target for Arsenal in the summer, although there are worries he could struggle getting a work permit.

Maycon is another so-called Brazilian wonderkid being linked with a big move to Europe. According to The S*n, Arsenal have been watching the midfielder for a while and may move for him in the summer.

They even have quotes from an unnamed source, who said: “Arsenal are very interested in Maycon. He has been watched a fair amount for more than a year. They have been impressed and he has a promising future. He is not really a player for now.

“There could be issues with getting him a visa. It would take a lot of work behind the scenes to get sorted. Arsenal have other priorities, so it could be one that happens in the summer, rather than now.”

Corinthians apparently want £9m for him, and would want him on loan for another year as well. The 20-year-old made his big breakthrough into the first-team last season and made 36 appearances in the Brazilian Serie A. He made an additional four appearances in the Copa Sudamericana.

Unfortunately, Maycon would be one of those players who Arsenal sign then immediately send on loan due to work permit issues. With no international caps, he wouldn’t be granted a permit right away, and even on appeal, it’s unlikely he would earn enough points to qualify.

This has made signing young talent from South America challenging for English clubs, especially Arsenal. Maycon could be a very good talent, but it’s difficult to see the move happening for that reason.
