Arsenal fans were surprised to see Chuba Akpom feature during the Gunners’ 4-2 FA Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday – myself included.

Akpom recently picked up a £9,350 fine and 17-month ban for drink driving on December 17 after he wrecked his £60k Range Rover.

The 22-year-old hasn’t played for Arsenal’s first team since the League Cup clash against Norwich on October 24.

Therefore, it was a bit of a shock to see the forward set foot on the pitch at the City Ground. Even if he did only get three minutes under his belt during the 4-2 defeat.

Surely he should be getting punished by Arsenal as well? Everton recently fined Wayne Rooney £300k for drink driving and Arsene Wenger is usually a stickler for discipline.

At the moment, Akpom doesn’t appear to have been punished internally by the club and now he’s gone on to play for the first team weeks after the incident.

This is from a club that many believe sold Wojciech Szczesny for smoking in the showers.

The goalkeeper was caught lighting up following his poor display against Southampton at St. Mary’s, which saw Arsenal lose 2-0 in January 2015.

The Poland international was fined £20k and apologised. However, Woj was immediately dropped to the bench for the next Premier League game against Stoke in favour David Ospina.

The 27-year-old was sent out on loan to Roma for the next two seasons before being sold to Juventus for £10m last summer.

After smoking in the shower, Woj never stood in goal for Arsenal again.

Why then, does Akpom get to walk onto the pitch weeks after breaking the law? Does Arsene Wenger no longer care about disciplining his players? Does he no longer care at all?
