Pundits are struggling to understand how Riyad Mahrez looks set to stay at Leicester after yet another transfer window.
Mahrez is having a pretty good season now that Leicester have a competent manager in charge.
Yet, his improved form hasn’t seen clubs throwing money at Leicester to sign him.
Arsenal have long been touted as a potential destination, but have yet to make a serious effort to sign him.
With Alexis Sanchez leaving and Theo Walcott sold, it’s something that Garth Crooks and Jamie Redknapp are struggling to understand.
“Mahrez has been impressive and sparked considerable talk about a possible move to Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal,” Crooks said, as reported by the Metro.
“However, with Alexis Sanchez now loading Manchester United’s postcode into his sat-nav, I think the Gunners might be Mahrez’s best option.”
Redknapp added: “I don’t understand why one of the top six hasn’t made an offer.
“He has been linked with Liverpool, but Mo Salah plays in his position.
“Given the departures of Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott, Arsenal may be a better fit for him.”
At this point, rumours linking Mahrez to Arsenal mean very little.
Arsenal have their replacements lined-up and working on signing them.
On paper, the Algerian seems such an obvious fit for Arsenal. Almost too obvious.
Clearly, Arsenal have a reason for not wanting to sign him, whether that be value or his suitability to the team.
Perhaps all the rumours to this point were just pure speculation all along.
All we know is, there are two reasons why Arsenal aren’t signing Mahrez.
One is called Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The other is known as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Maybe the link will finally die if we sign both of those players.
