As the World Cup groups stages draw was made, Jack Wilshere is still waiting for a conversation with Gareth Southgate about his England future.

Southgate  said last month that he would contact Wilshere to explain why he hadn’t been included in his England squad.

Wilshere, though, said that Southgate had yet to call him, despite his phone always being on.

The England manager has now responded to that, claiming that the past few weeks have been extremely busy, and that there’d be many conversations to come.

“My phone isn’t always on — I’ve had a chaotic couple of weeks,” Southgate said, as reported by the S*n.

“Jack seems to be getting closer to the team with Arsenal.

“He has been on the bench for the last couple of matches.

“He has not started yet but there are lots of conversations with lots of different players to be had over the next couple of months.”

Wilshere needs more Premier League game time if he’s to get back into the England squad in time for the World Cup in the summer.

He’s made three appearances off the substitute’s bench, and has only received starts in the Europa League and Carabao Cup.

His situation could result in him asking to leave the club in January.

Talks about his Arsenal future are due to take place this month. We should soon find out if he’ll be given a new contract or not.

Wilshere wants to be part of the England squad who will play Belgium, Tunisia and Panama in the World Cup in Russia this summer.
