Jack Wilshere admits he should’ve scored against West Ham on Wednesday, which led to Arsenal dropping two points at the London Stadium.

Wilshere was making his first start for Arsenal in the Premier League in well over a year, after having to settle for Europa League and League Cup starts so far this campaign.

But his good form in those competitions, as well as Aaron Ramsey’s hamstring injury, saw him back in the first-team on Wednesday, and he was one of the best performers on the night.

Unfortunately, he also missed one of the Gunners’ best chances to break the deadlock, which he was asked about by BT Sport after the match.

“Yeah, I haven’t watched it back. It happened really quick and it was obviously on my weaker right foot. I should hit the target but it sat up a little bit.”

The 25-year-old was clearly happy with how he played, however, saying: “I felt good, I’ve played a few games this year, not the Premier League but in the Europa League and the Carabao Cup.

“I’m fit and I was happy to get the opportunity tonight. I thought I done alright. There’s a little bit more to come but I’m happy with my performance.”

Honestly, I think Wilshere should be happy with how he played. Against FC Köln in late November, he was poor. He came in for a lot of criticism as a result, with some fans saying he isn’t good enough to break into the Premier League side.

But since then, he’s got a goal and assist against BATE Borisov, and was WhoScored’s Man of the Match against West Ham.

If there’s one thing Wilshere knows what to do, it’s bouncing back from disappointment. Hopefully next time he gets a great chance like the one at the London Stadium he’ll prove it again.
