Mauricio Pochettino has done great work with Tottenham, but Arsene Wenger has still won more points at Arsenal than the Argentine has with Spurs in the last three years.
For all the talk of Pochettino being a much better manager than Wenger, he’s yet to surpass the Frenchman when it come to earning points in the Premier League – let alone in trophies
Since Poch became the Tottenham manager in 2014, he’s accrued an impressive 245 points. More than a third of those came in the 2016/17 season, where they managed 86 points and a second-placed finish.
In the last three years, Wenger and Arsenal have gathered 249 points. None of their points tallies were as good as that 16/17 campaign that Tottenham enjoyed, but they’ve been more consistent for those four seasons.
It’s yet another demonstration that the gap between sides isn’t all that big. Tottenham have certainly improved and are running Arsenal close, but as this season is proving, they’re not yet the best club in North London.
It’s also telling how a manager who is supposed to be past it is still outperforming a bright, upcoming coach who can do no wrong. Both clubs this season face a battle to finish in the top-four again.
On current form, they’re going to be much close together in the table than they were last season.
