Arsene Wenger insists that Arsenal are working on tying Aaron Ramsey down to a new contract.

With just 18 months left on his current Arsenal deal, Gooners are beginning to worry that Rambo is yet another player set to run into the final year of his contract. However, Wenger insists this isn’t the case and that the club are working on an extension behind the scenes.

“Yes, we deal with the (contract) situations,” said Wenger. “It’s an ongoing process.

“We always try behind the scenes, the negotiations are going on. Of course we only come with things when they are done, but most of the time it’s a year and a half – or more – of work.”

Rambo has been at the club since 2008 when we signed him from Cardiff City. Since then, the midfielder has gone on to make 311 appearances across all competitions, scoring 50 goals and assisting 53. This is despite spending 625 days sidelined through injury.

When he’s in form, the 26-year-old is one of Arsenal’s most important players. Therefore, I’m sure the boss and club are doing everything they can to convince him to stay in north London. Not that I think he would ever genuinely want to leave.

So far this season, Rambo’s scored three goals and provided eight assists, five of which have come during the last five Premier League games. He’s a man in form and Arsenal would be fools to let him leave.

Wenger knows this, which is why I believe that after the debacle with Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez running into the final year of their contracts, we’re probably doing everything we can to stop this from happening again. At least you would hope we are!
