Arsene Wenger will reportedly ask Manchester City for Vincent Kompany if they return for Alexis Sanchez in January.

In one of the stranger transfer stories this week, Wenger is set to ask City for Kompany if they make an approach for Alexis next month.

Now I know that the Frenchman likes playing footballers out of position but Kompany as a forward? Although perhaps playing at centre-back is Alexis’ only chance of getting in City’s first team?

Joking aside, it would be a bizarre move.

Firstly, even though Alexis, 28, has been pretty poor this season, when he’s in form he’s one of our best players. Kompany is certainly not one of City’s.

Secondly, the Belgium international is 31 and has already missed 20 games through injury this season.

We’ve already got Laurent Koscielny’s dodgy Achilles, why would be add another injury-prone centre-back to the mix?

And finally, Kompany’s contract with City runs out in 18 months, which means we would have to pay actual money for him in January unless it was a straight swap deal, which hardly ever happens.

There’s no way Arsenal would sign Kompany and there’s definitely no way that we would miss out on receiving actual cash from City for Alexis in January because we brought the Belgian on board.

While I acknowledge that the centre-back was one of the best in the league around five years ago, he’s not anymore.
