Vieira: Arsenal should sell Sanchez, no player is bigger than the club

Patrick Vieira thinks Arsenal should sell Alexis Sanchez in January as it’s hard to rely on a player who doesn’t want to stay.

With the Chilean’s contract expiring at the end of the season, and no news of a new deal, the Gunners can either choose to hold onto the player until the summer and lose him for free, or sell in January.

Copa 90 conducted an interview with Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira, and asked him what he thought about the situation. Vieira responded: “When a player wants to leave a football club, I think they should let him go.

“When a player doesn’t want to stay at a football club any more, he’s never going to give 100 per cent and he is never going to give you his best. And I believe when a player wants to leave the club, you should let him go because there is no player bigger than the club.”

Patrick is probably just echoing what most fans are starting to think at this stage, based on my experience on social media.

There’s no doubting that Alexis, Lacazette and Özil make a fantastic trio, and have been scoring for fun so far. But unlike the other two, you never really know when Sanchez is going to perform.

Against Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United, Alexis gave the ball away constantly, creating as many opportunities for the opposition as he did for his own team.

Similarly against Burnley, Sanchez was relatively poor for most of the 90 minutes, but did step up for the pressure penalty to win all three points. But then you look at his performances against Spurs, and Everton when he was fantastic.

If Arsenal can’t rely on him, they’d be better off selling, even if it’s not for the £55m Manchester City were reportedly offering on the final day of the the summer in a move designed to ensure Arsenal could not adequately replace the Chilean.

Let him go and let’s move on.
