Rio Ferdinand has told Arsenal fans to “shut up and sit in their place”, after the Gunners were one of three teams overtaken by Burnley in the Premier League.

Burnley scored a last minute winner against Stoke to move past the Gunners, as well as Liverpool and Tottenham, up into fourth place in the table.

All three clubs could go back ahead of Sean Dyche’s men with wins on Wednesday, but that didn’t stop Ferdinand taking to Twitter with his rather premature congratulations.

“I just woke up,” said Rio in the video. “Respect to Sean Dyche. His Burnley team are sitting fourth in the Premier League.

“But Arsenal fans, Liverpool fans, Spurs fans I suggest you come off social media. I don’t want to see any of you there chatting any breeze, don’t talk to me. Don’t come with any stupid talk to me. You are below Burnley, shut up and sit in your place.”

Much as it is impressive that Burnley have made it into the top-four, you don’t get any prizes for being there just one day in the middle of the season. It would be a major shock if none of the three clubs overtake them later today.

Liverpool face West Brom at home, Tottenham play Brighton at Wembley, and Arsenal travel to the London Stadium to take on West Ham.

And not to mention the fact that Arsenal beat Burnley when the two sides faced each other a couple of weeks ago, it’s not as if the Gunners have been proven the inferior team.

With 22 games to go for Arsène Wenger’s men, I’d be wary about criticising Arsenal until the campaign comes to a close.
