Contrary to previous reports, Andre Gomes won’t be leaving Barcelona in January as part of a swap deal for Mesut Ozil. Shocking, huh?
According to A Bola, Gomes is staying at Barca in January, despite the midfielder only making two La Liga starts for Ernesto Valverde’s side so far this season.
The 24-year-old moved to Catalonia from Valencia 18 months ago but is yet to make any sort of impact, which is probably why he linked with a move to Arsenal in return for Ozil.
Obviously, this isn’t going ahead. Not that many people actually thought the Gunners would ever be involved in any kind of swap deal as those hardly ever happen anyway.

Gomes is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury he suffered at the beginning of November. However, even before being struck down, the Portuguese international was struggling for game time. In fact, over his five La Liga appearances, he only totalled just 201 minutes.
Meanwhile, Arsenal still seem keen to hold onto Ozil, who Barca have been reportedly eyeing up as a cheaper alternative to Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho. The German would supposedly only set the Spanish side back £20m compared to £130m for the 25-year-old.
Arsene Wenger admits that while anything could happen in January, he wants to keep the playmaker in north London.
