New contracts and talks started: Arsenal news you might have missed

Will they stay or will they go? Several Arsenal players are said to be in talks over new deals while others are holding off on putting pen to paper – but who?

According to a report in the Telegraph this week, there are certain players that Arsenal are keener to get tied down to new contracts than others.

With Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez dominating the headlines, it’s easy to forget that the Gunners have a handful of other players either out of contract at the end of this season or next.

Here’s how their negotiations are going… or not, as the case may be.

Jack Wilshere

Even though Arsene Wenger said that Jack’s future would be sorted by December, Arsenal are allegedly yet to offer the 25-year-old a new contract.

“I said many times that [Wilshere’s contract] would be decided in December,” the boss said. in November. “I wanted to give him six months not to think about that and see where we go. Do we want to clear it up before the January window? Yes.

The midfielder is yet to make a start in the Premier League this season but is starting to get regular game time. He scored his first goal of the campaign against BATE Borisov in the Europa League on Thursday.

Given the fact that he has just six months left on his current deal, it’s highly unlikely that he’ll be loaned out.

Jack will be able to starts talks with other clubs in January. Crystal Palace and West Ham have been linked.

Theo Walcott

Theo has reportedly put contract talks on hold until the end of the season.

The forward has 18 months left on his current deal and, like Jack, is really struggling for game time.

It may be that the 28-year-old is waiting to see if his situation improves before extending his time in north London or choosing to move on.

Everton, West Ham and Southampton have all been linked.

Petr Cech

Cech also has just 18 months left on his contract but the club are said to be relaxed about his situation.

Despite being 35, the goalkeeper is supposedly likely to sign a new deal with Arsenal but it’s not a pressing issue right now.

Aaron Ramsey

Provisional talks are said to have started between Rambo and the club.

The 26-year-old’s deal runs out in June 2019 and Arsenal clearly don’t want to lose him.

Wenger hinted recently that the club are trying to tie players down behind the scenes, we just don’t hear about it.

“Yes, we deal with the situations,” said Wenger. “It’s an ongoing process.

“We always try behind the scenes, the negotiations are going on. Of course we only come with things when they are done, but most of the time it’s a year and a half – or more – of work.”

Danny Welbeck

Just like Rambo, Welbz has apparently begun talks over a new deal with the Gunners.

His contract runs out at the same time.
