The Gunners played four Premier League matches in November, the first of which was a 3-1 loss to Manchester City, but Mustafi played no part in that game due to injury. When he did return, Wenger’s side significantly improved.
First, the Arsenal defender scored the opening goal in the 2-0 win over Spurs, making himself the match-winner at both ends of the pitch. The clean sheet against Arsenal’s local rivals was followed up by another in a tough trip to Burnley. Then, back at the Emirates, the German helped his team to a third against Huddersfield.
When you go through a month scoring more goals than you conceded, as a centre-back, you’re always likely to be nominated for an award like this.
Unfortunately, as soon as December got underway, it all seemed to fall apart. Mustafi conceded two goals in 10 minutes against Manchester United last Saturday, picking up an injury for his troubles.
But since this award is only focused on November, Mustafi deserved to be nominated. Congratulations, and good luck to him.
