David Moyes hopes West Ham can take advantage of Arsenal’s early game nerves when the two sides lock horns at the London Stadium.
On Wednesday night, West Ham will be looking to capitalise on Arsenal poor starts by getting an early goal. Moyes revealed the plan in his pre-match press conference.
“If you talk about Arsenal, they’re a really good team with excellent players, but we need to find a way of getting a result. If we can score another early goal, we’ll be thrilled.”
The Gunners went two behind to Manchester United in the opening 15 minutes of the game, and followed that up a week later by conceding one to Southampton just three minutes in.
In all honesty, Arsenal were lucky they weren’t two down in the opening quarter of an hour that day, and it would be really poor if they were to allow the same thing to happen against West Ham.
Once the Gunners have grown into matches, they’ve generally performed very well. Manchester United were constantly under pressure for the remainder of the match, and the same was true against Southampton.
Then there was the match against Huddersfield, where Wenger’s side were the ones scoring an early goal, and then easing to a 5-0 win. I wouldn’t mind the same again tonight. After picking up one point from their last two games, only victory can do in the race for a top-four finish.
