David Moyes admits he tried to sign Aaron Ramsey when he was Everton boss, before the Welshman joined Arsenal.

The Gunners face Moyes’ new club West Ham on Wednesday night, and Aaron Ramsey won’t be one of the players lining up against the Hammers, after suffering an injury against Southampton.

Moyes was asked what difference it could make potentially having Jack Wilshere in the team instead, and he responded: “I really like Aaron Ramsey. I tried to sign him at Everton before he went to Arsenal.

“He turned out to be a terrific player. Jack Wilshere is also an excellent footballer. I’m not an expert on Arsenal. I couldn’t tell you whether they are better with Ramsey or Jack Wilshere but I think whoever they play they have got good players.”

Hopefully Wilshere does come into the side and performs just as well as Ramsey has for the last few months.

The 25-year-old has a lot to live up to, however, as the injured Welshman has scored three goals and provided six assists in 15 Premier League appearances this season, as well as winning two penalties.

As for Moyes admitting that he tried to sign him during his Cardiff City days, he’s not the only one. Everton and Arsenal were joined by Manchester United in a three-way battle for the youngster.

United even posted an article on their club website announcing that they’d agreed terms with Cardiff. Unfortunately for them, and for Moyes, they had to post another article a week later revealing that Ramsey had snubbed them both for Arsenal.

Hopefully the midfielder will be back soon to continue making them both feel bad about missing out.
