David Moyes revealed that West Ham could be looking to sign Olivier Giroud in January.
Not only does Moyes potentially want to sign Jack Wilshere in January, he also has his eyes on Olivier Giroud, even though the Scotsman admits that West Ham already have a lot of strikers.
“We’ve got a lot of strikers so I think for us to be linked to strikers at the moment might not necessarily be the right thing,” Moyes said. “But who knows? I think Olivier Giroud is a talented footballer and has a record of scoring goals.”
Giroud has 18 months on his current Arsenal contract and, at the time of writing, is yet to make a start in the Premier League this season. Therefore, he could be looking to leave in January.
The 31-year-old turned down a move to Everton in the summer because he felt it wasn’t right for him and he wanted to fight for a place in the Arsenal first team. However, four months in and his situation hasn’t improved.
As Moyes says, Giroud’s a proven goalscorer. Although the France international isn’t exactly Sergio Aguero right now, his tally is still pretty impressive considering his lack of minutes on the pitch.
West Ham currently have Andy Carroll, who was on the bench for the Hammers’ 1-0 win over Chelsea at the weekend, Diafra Sakho and Javier Hernandez as their first team forwards. And they’re hardly on fire. Therefore, signing Giroud might be a good move.
Saying that, I still don’t want him to leave Arsenal.
