Arsenal could lose out on Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka to Liverpool, according to Bild.

Goretzka is out of contract in the summer and is expected to leave Schalke.

Arsenal have been linked with the midfielder since the summer, but despite their interest, they could lose out on him.

According to Bild (via Football London), Liverpool will beat out the competition to sign the 22-year-old for free.

Bild report that he’s on his way to Anfield and will soon announce his decision.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is said to be a decisive factor for Goretzka.

The move could be a blow for Arsenal, who need to strengthen their midfield.

Santi Cazorla remains out with injury, while Mesut Ozil is out of contract in the summer.

There are also doubts about the quality of Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny.

Goretzka is free to talk with other clubs in January due to his contract situation.

He’s seemingly been available for some time now, and questions will have to be asked if Arsenal lose out on him to a domestic rival.

Should he move to Liverpool, Arsenal will have to pursue other targets in January or in the summer.
