He deserves a zero: Arsenal player ratings v Manchester United

Arsenal conspired to beat themselves 3-1 at the Emirates on Saturday afternoon in the days late kick-off.

Firing off 33 shots (to United’s 8), Arsenal certainly didn’t hold back or look scared against United. Rather, it was their inbuilt ability to shoot themselves in the foot and then follow that up with a hatchet to the head that was their undoing.

So how did the players do? For a 3-1 defeat to a Jose Mourinho Manchester United, surprisingly well…

Defence

Petr Cech 7

Didn’t really have anything to do other than pick the ball out of his net three times.

Shkodran Mustafi 4

Dreaming on the ball, got caught, Arsenal went two down, he went off injured.

Laurent Koscielny 5

His awful pass gifted United possession, leading to their early opener. A times he looked old.

Nacho Monreal 7

Nacho was Nacho, thankfully.

Next, midfield….

Midfield

Hector Bellerin 6

One inaccurate cross, one tackle, four fouls.

Sead Kolasinac 7

Solid.

Granit Xhaka 7.5

Much maligned but this was certainly one of Granit’s better games for Arsenal.

Aaron Ramsey 10

He gets 10 for his run and assist and for being Aaron Ramsey. Problem?

Next, forwards…

Forwards

Mesut Ozil 8

We wanted him to shine like he had against Huddersfield or Spurs, instead he retreated into himself a little. Was still very impressive with three shots and four key passes, but his passing was just a little below-par.

Alexis Sanchez 1

Gave the ball away 17 times in each half. If you aren’t any good at maths, that means he gave it away THIRTY FOUR TIMES in 90 minutes. He’s getting a 1 because I’m not totally heartless. The rest of the DC team said give him a 0.

Alexandre Lacazette 8.5

Like an Xmas miracle, he was declared fit despite being ruled out around 24 hours earlier. He’s worth every penny we paid for him.

Next, subs…

Subs

Alex Iwobi 6

Arsenal improved when he came on but that was more likely the change in formation than anything he did in particular. Managed six shots, three of which were even on target.

Danny Welbeck 7

Gave it his all, got in a few shots, didn’t lose the ball once and generally did what Danny does.

Olivier Giroud 3

A pass accuracy of 25%, zero efforts on goal, and just four touches is hardly the impact we expect from the Frenchman off the bench these days.
