Arsenal were one of the teams interested in Gonzalo Higuain before he joined Juventus, according to former teammate Omar El Kaddouri.

In 2016 that Gonzalo Higuain joined Juventus in a deal reportedly worth £81m.

At the time, it was an incredibly expensive transfer, and not one you’d expect Arsenal to be involved with at all.

However, according to Higuain’s former Napoli teammate, Omar El Kaddouri, the Argentine striker did have Arsenal as an option.

“It’s difficult to judge someone’s choice,” he told Tutto Juve when asked about the player leaving for another Serie A side.

“For the Neapolitans it was difficult to understand, especially because there is a very strong rivalry with Juventus.

“But if you want Juve I think you want even teams of equal strength, so you can consider these other options too.

“Higuain could have even more at Juventus and Arsenal after the season he had at Napoli.”

Arsenal, of course, attempted to sign Higuain before he joined Napoli in a well documented transfer saga.

During the summer of 2013 when was available and Arsenal were reportedly close to agreeing a £23m deal for him.

However, Arsene Wenger hesitated and that allowed Napoli to come in with a bigger offer.

According to Goal.com, Higuain took Arsenal’s hesitation as a sign that he wouldn’t be truly valued there, and leapt at the chance to join Napoli instead.

It was certainly Arsenal’s loss.

We struggled for years without a real top class centre forward, while Higuain was prolific for Napoli.

He score 91 goals in 146 appearances before making the switch to Juventus.
