Borussia Dortmund are looking at Olivier Giroud as a replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with the 28-year-old set to be sold in January.

Le 10 Sport via Tribal Football write that Dortmund want to take advantage of Giroud’s desire to be playing regular first-team football, by making him an offer in the winter window.

Aubameyang has reportedly fallen out with management, so he’s likely to be moving on, despite 20 goals and two assists in 21 appearances for the Germans this season.

Recently, the Gabon centre-forward was suspended by the club, a decision he said he couldn’t understand. Aubameyang was then sent off against FC Schalke in his next match, before returning to the team and scoring in a 2-1 loss to Werder Bremen.

Whilst Giroud can’t match 20 goals in 21 starts this season, he has been in good form lately, scoring four in his last four games. The Frenchman also said in an interview with L’Equipe that he has to ask himself if he should stay in the winter window.

An offer from Dortmund could be sufficiently attractive to convince the 31-year-old to leave, but not with the way they’re playing at the moment. The Germans haven’t won a match since October, and haven’t won in the league since September.

Right now, Dortmund are fortunate that they started so well, or they’d be even further down the Bundesliga table than eighth. But all that might just add to their desperation to bring in a new striker, so we’ll see what happens in January.
