Atletico Madrid CEO Enrique Cerezo has revealed that the La Liga club won’t be making a move for rumoured transfer target, Yusuf Yazici, which should come as music to Arsene Wenger’s ears.

Cerezo claims that Atleti won’t be moving for the Trabzonspor attacking midfielder, who Arsenal have also been strongly linked with, when their transfer ban has been lifted in January. In fact, they’re only planning on adding Chelsea’s Diego Costa and Vitolo, who’s currently on loan at Las Palmas, to their squad.

“No we will not be making an offer for the players mentioned in Turkey,” Cerezo said after being asked about Yazici.

“Diego Costa and Vitolo will be joining us in January, we will not be making any other transfers.”

Yazici’s representative Adem Cebeci revealed that Wenger has personally been scouting the Turkey international, who has until June 2022 on his contract with Trabzonspor.

“Yusuf wants a move to Europe, Dr Erkut Sogut has been in talks with clubs and there is interest from the Premier League, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has watched Yusuf in person,” claims Cebeci.

Trabzonspor are allegedly keen to keep hold of the 20-year-old and have slapped him with a £17.5m price tag.

Yazici, who shares an agent with Mesut Ozil (Dr Erkut Sogut), has made 15 league appearances for the Turkish side this season, scoring twice and assisting three. Despite still only being 20, he’s also been capped four times for Turkey’s senior team.

It’s unclear whether Cebeci is telling the truth about Wenger scouting Yazici personally. However, if he has, there must be at least some interest there. £17.5m isn’t that steep either, considering the current transfer market. I just hope, if we are looking to sign him, it’s not to replace another attacking midfielder…
