Barcelona B winger, José Arnaiz, will reportedly resist Arsenal’s ‘siren song’ in January and remain focused on his current side.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Arnaiz will choose to stay in Spain in January despite huge interest from Arsenal. The Spanish outlet even describe the Gunners’ pull to the Premier League as a ‘siren song’… they’ve obviously never heard Arsene Wenger sing…

Arsenal are allegedly willing to pay Barca €20m (£17.75m) to bring the 22-year-old to north London. However, with the Catalan’s B team currently struggling just above the relegation zone of Spain’s second division, he apparently wants to stay and help where he can.

Arnaiz only signed for Barcelona B from fellow second tier side Valladolid in August. Therefore, it’s hardly surprising that he doesn’t want to move yet. His contract runs until June 2021.

The Spaniard has made 18 appearances in Segunda, scored six goals and assisted four since the move. Not bad.

Arnaiz seems like a strong prospect. However, if the report’s true, it’s slightly concerning that he’s not doing everything in his power to move up the ladder. He’s 22 – not a kid anymore – and if footballers haven’t been noticed by now, they may never be.

Perhaps he genuinely does want to remain loyal to his new side or just isn’t ready for another change. Perhaps he thinks he’ll progress into Barca’s first team.

Whatever the reason, it doesn’t look as if he’s coming to north London any time soon.
