Arsenal are the only big-six club to have just one player in the Premier League’s top-25 goalscorers this season.

Alexandre Lacazette currently sits in joint-eighth place in the rankings, which is by no means a poor effort in his debut season in England. The problem is that no other Arsenal player makes the top-25.

Liverpool have Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho. Manchester United have Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial. Manchester City have about half the players on the list. Even Leicester City and Watford have more players near the top than Arsenal.

If the Gunners want to compete with the other big-six clubs, they need to improve their goalscoring. Alexis Sanchez, who scored 30 goals in all competitions last season, this year has five.

That’s nowhere near good enough for a player who thinks as highly of himself as Alexis seems to. Olivier Giroud has done well with the minutes he’s been given, considering he has four league goals as well, but he couldn’t replicate that form against West Ham when given the full 90 minutes.

Much as I love Danny Welbeck, he’s never scored double figures in a league season. Aaron Ramsey had improved his goal contributions significantly on last season, but his yearly injury problems have started to take over, and Mesut Özil is always going to create more than he scores.

Nacho Monreal is the only other player to score more than one league goal for the Gunners. Unless someone other than Lacazette steps up, it’ll be no surprise if Arsenal fall further behind the top four.
