Arsenal have sent a scout to watch Lyon’s teenage midfielder Houssem Aouar, but they also have competition from Barcelona, according to latest reports.

Aouar is the latest in a long line of talent to come out of Lyon’s academy. If the Sun are to be believed, he could also be the latest to leave the club. Arsenal are reportedly monitoring the 19-year-old, who is also being linked with a move to Barcelona.

The French youth international has been a regular for Lyon this season, and has scored four times in all competitions. Arsenal may be weighing up a move in order to strengthen their midfield options.

While Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey start most games, there are doubts about our other options. Jack Wilshere is out of contract in the summer, and could still leave the club despite his good performances.

Meanwhile, Santi Cazorla has been out since October 2016 with an achilles problem and is also out of contract this summer. Arsenal would lose a lot of creativity and technical quality if the two leave.

Aouar could be just the sort of midfielder they need to ensure that they still have a creative option in the squad.
