Schalke will do everything they can to extend Leon Goretzka’s contract after losing Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer last summer.

Goretzka’s contract expires in the summer, with little progress made on extending it.

His situation has seen him linked with a number of clubs, notably Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

According to Bild (via talkSPORT), Schalke will do all they can to prevent losing another star player on a free transfer by offering Goretzka £206,000 per week.

It was just last season that they lost Sead Kolasinac to Arsenal on a free transfer.

Their decision not to sell Goretzka in the same summer was a sign that they were willing to risk losing him for nothing if it meant keeping him for another season.

Unfortunately, as Arsenal fans will tell you, there’s not a lot that can be done if the player has his heart set on a move.

A new contract would keep Goretzka at Schalke for longer, and allow them to ask for a much higher transfer fee.

As it is, they stand to lose a very talented player they’ve developed from a young age for nothing.

Arsenal will be hoping he doesn’t sign a new contract so that they could sign a bargain in the summer to offset the number of players they could lose for free themselves.
