Last month, a report emerged claiming that Arsene Wenger wanted to move for Manchester United’s Anthony Martial and most laughed, but could the Frenchman actually convince the forward to come to north London?

At the beginning of October, the Sunday Mirror claimed that Arsenal want to bring Martial in as Alexis Sanchez’s replacement.

United only signed the 21-year-old from Monaco two years ago for a rumoured £36m – a sum that seemed massive at the time.

Since, the France international’s game time with the Red Devils has decreased dramatically. During his first season, he started 29 times out of the 31 Premier League games he featured in. Not bad. However, the following season, he made 18 starts and was subbed on seven times.

This term, he’s made just three Premiership starts out of 10 games and has still managed to score four goals.

At Arsenal, Martial would be a guaranteed starter because he would be replacing Alexis.

The youngster has also been compared to Thierry Henry, a player Arsene Wenger is famed for developing. Could he do something similar with Martial? What’s more, there’s the French connection. Wenger’s countrymen still have the utmost respect for Le Professeur.

Martial has under two years left on his current deal and with Jose Mourinho barely playing him, it could be worth Wenger trying to unsettle the forward. However, unless the former Chelsea manager really doesn’t rate the player, there’s no way he’s selling to Arsenal.
