Arsène Wenger insists that the Gunners can’t start thinking ahead to Manchester United, and they have to stay fully focused on beating Huddersfield.

Speaking to a press conference on Tuesday ahead of the match up with the newly promoted side, Wenger was asked whether it was more important to focus on Huddersfield, or to keep one eye on the weekend.

“The most important game is tomorrow. We have a good chance to take three points at home and that is all that matters. We have a big squad to deal with it,” reports the Daily Star.

It is a massive game for me. They didn’t deserve to lose against City. They had to play 46 games in the Championship and have proven they are ready for a fight. They are dangerous for every Premier League side.”

Beating Manchester United brings the double benefit of earning points for yourself while also denying them to a rival, but it’s nowhere near as useful if Arsenal go and lose to Huddersfield first. Beat both, and the Gunners could be one point off United in the table.

As Wenger says, the squad is big enough to be able to handle both games. Although they lost to FC Köln last week, generally the second string side has been able to grind out the necessary results. In fact, that match against Köln is their only loss so far.

Huddersfield beat Manchester United in the league and ran Manchester City a lot closer than most teams have this year, so it’s by no means a guaranteed result. But if Wenger rotates well and the team keeps their concentration, they’ll have a much better chance.
