Thomas Vermaelen is reportedly concerned about his lack of playing time ahead of the World Cup next year and could force a move away from Barcelona in January.

Vermaelen is said to be unhappy with his lack of playing time at Barca, which makes sense seeing as he’s only made 22 appearances since signing for the Catalan giants in 2014.

As a result, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, the Belgian could be looking to force through a move to a team where he’ll actually get playing time in January.

Inter Milan are the main club supposedly in the frame and Anderlect are also linked. However, Everton are apparently another option.

The Toffees were linked with the 31-year-old over the summer and Vermaelen himself even confirmed that a move was potentially on the cards but Barca blocked it, claiming that they needed four centre-backs so he needed to stay. However, Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo insisted that the defender hadn’t ‘expressed himself’ well and rubbished his comments.

Verm’ apparently has a hefty €80m release clause and with just under two years left on his deal with Barca, he would probably have to force a move if Everton were going to sign him.

Barca signed the defender from Arsenal for £15m three years ago but the poor guy has spent the vast majority of his time in La Liga sidelined through injury. You have to feel for him.
