Arsenal have been dealt a blow, with Tottenham having an edge on the competition for Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney.

The 20-year-old is arguably Scotland’s brightest talent at the moment and has been impressing in an all-conquering Celtic team.

According to ESPN, Tottenham have stepped-up their scouting of him in an effort to beat Arsenal and Manchester United to his signature.

Ben Davies is Spurs’ first choice left wing-back after Danny Rose’s spell on the sidelines with injury. Rose could soon leave Spurs, with Manchester United interested in him.

United themselves have issues at left back. Luke Shaw, who they signed for big money from Southampton in 2014, is out-of-favour under Jose Mourinho. Ashley Young is now their starting left-back these days.

Arsenal could also do with more depth at left-back now that Nacho Monreal is playing as a centre-back.

Sead Kolasinac may be first choice, but his back-up this season has been Ainsley Maitland-Niles, a winger-turned-central midfielder who occasionally filled in as a right-back last season. He’s far from a perfect fit in my opinion.

Tierney could be difficult to prise away from Celtic, as he recently signed a six-year contract with the club.
