Gary Neville says he was very impressed by Arsenal’s complete team performance against Tottenham on Saturday.

It’s been a while since we saw Arsenal dominate so confidently against a big-six side. Arguably, Manchester United at home last season was another example of when they did, but that was against a weakened side with the Europa League final to fall back on.

This match, on the other hand, was against a near full-strength Tottenham side with everything to play for. Gary Neville thinks the international break could have affected Spurs a bit, but he doesn’t let that take anything away from Arsenal’s performance.

He said on Sky Sports: “I didn’t think Arsenal would lose before the game being honest because I think after international duty, to go away from home at 12.30pm, is not easy,” reports Red London.

“But that’s as good as I’ve seen Arsenal, it really is. I wondered after ten minutes would they be able to keep it up? Is it just a bold start that would fizzle out?

“But it was a really, really good performance. Overall my assessment of the game today was Arsenal were absolutely fantastic from number one to 11. There wasn’t a poor performer.”

After the game, it really was difficult to pick out a player who hadn’t performed to expectations. All 11 players had their part to play, and it’s good to hear some recognition of that from a respected pundit like Neville.

The part about bold starts rings true as well. Arsenal have a habit of starting the big games like they want to prove a point, then conceding and reverting to everything they’re accused of becoming in the big games.

It was important for the Gunners to break out of that habit on this occasion, and for once they took advantage of their first-half chances to put a couple of goals away. I think we’d all be happy to see more of the same in the future.
