Lucas Perez was in action for Deportivo and got on the scoresheet. Stephy Mavididi was given a rare start and Takuma Asano also featured. The rest were on the bench or left out entirely.

Lucas scored the equalising goal against Malaga for Deportivo La Coruna before his side suffered a 3-2 defeat. His goal made it 1-1 at half-time. It was Lucas’ fifth goal in 11 appearances this season.

It’s been a different story for Stephy Mavididi, however. The forward has barely started for Preston North End this season.

For once, he was given an opportunity at the weekend against Bolton Wanderers. Although he didn’t manage to score, Preston ended their four-game losing streak with a 0-0 draw, and the fans slowly seem to be warming to the striker.

Takuma Asano got 45 minutes in Stuttgart’s 2-1 win over Dortmund. Asano’s team managed an impressive and unexpected victory, but his run without a goal or assist in the Bundesliga continued.

Kelechi Nwakali and Emiliano Martinez were unused substitutes for VVV-Venlo and Getafe, whilst Cohen Bramall and Marc Bola were left out of the Birmingham City and Bristol Rovers’ squads respectively.

Carl Jenkinson missed out for Birmingham through injury, and Joel Campbell will probably be absent through injury when Real Betis take on Eibar at 8pm tonight
