Ian Wright has laughed off the suggestion that Mesut Özil is even more technically capable than Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp.

Wright often interacts with fans on Twitter, and on this occasion he spotted a tweet from one supporter arguing with Claude from YouTube channel ArsenalFanTV.

In the tweet, the fan said “Ozil has far more class and technical abilities than Bergkamp ever had, Bergkamp was lucky he played in a good team at that time.” Wright responded on Twitter.

The new publicity for the tweet brought waves of angry Arsenal fans ready to defend the Dutch legend who has a statue outside the Emirates Stadium.

However, my initial reaction was to doubt that Steven was being serious, as I’ve been on Twitter long enough to spot when someone is trying to provoke a reaction.

So I took a look at his profile, and it turns out Steven is a Manchester United fan, who regularly puts out inflammatory opinions on Arsenal players, such as the below:

To me, that’s fairly conclusive evidence that he was just looking for a reaction, and unfortunately he got one on this occasion.

No doubt Bergkamp did play in a better team than the one Özil is currently playing in, but class and technical ability were two things Dennis had in abundance, to the extent that even Mesut can’t keep up.

I doubt there are many who genuinely believe otherwise.
