Arsenal could face competition from Everton for Besiktas midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup, according to reports.

Ozyakup, who is out of contract in the summer, has been frequently linked with Arsenal in recent weeks. According to Fotospor, though, it’s Everton who are looking to take the initiative with a £13m offer.

The Turkish international has been named as a potential Mesut Ozil replacement due to his excellent performances for Besiktas in recent seasons.

However, how much of Arsenal’s reported interest in genuine and how much is related to a sell-on clause they have on him remains to be seen.

With Ozyakup out of contract in the summer, Arsenal may be keen for a sale to happen so they can get some money out of it. There is also some thought that Besiktas could let his contract expire to remove that 30% sell-on, before re-signing him on a new deal, reports the Mirror.

There is likely to be interest in Ozyakup from teams around Europe, given his form for club and country and potential availability. He scored and created 13 goals in 29 league games last season.

Arsenal will be looking at midfield reinforcements should Ozil and Alexis Sanchez leave the club in January or in the summer at the end of their respective contracts. Ozyakup used to play for Arsenal’s youth teams and could be an option.
