Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal will not be moving for Leicester winger, Riyad Mahrez, in January.

Wenger has given his latest response to recent rumours that Arsenal could reignite their interest in Mahrez in January and it’s not looking likely. In fact, when asked, the Frenchman merely said, “No.”

Well that’s that then.

The Gunners have been linked with Mahrez again recently after allegedly trying to sign him during the summer. However, Arsenal eventually turned their attention to Monaco’s Thomas Lemar, who Wenger also insists the club won’t be moving for in January.

“No. At the moment, I have a big squad,” he said.

“The problem for me is to keep everyone together until the end of the season.

“Do we go on the transfer market in January? I don’t know yet.”

Arsenal need a replacement for Alexis Sanchez. However, if you look at the manager’s history when it comes to making big signings in January, it’s looks as if Gooners will have to wait until next summer.

Despite being awarded Player of the Season for 2015/16, when the Foxes won the Premier League, Mahrez is finding it hard to secure a move.

Roma were heavily linked with the Algerian in the summer but the transfer never materialised.

Mahrez has under three years left on his Leicester contract, which he renewed in 2016, and has scored once this season. He’s also provided three assists.

It looks like the 26-year-old will just have to be patient if he wants out of Leicester since Wenger has made it very clear where he stands.
