Arsenal sent a scout to watch Thomas Lemar in Monaco’s match against Besiktas, according to reports in France.

Mercato365.com claim the Gunners are still after Lemar, and were watching him during Wednesday’s Champions League match. If the reports are correct, it seems that Wenger’s comments denying a new Lemar bid might just turn out to be an attempt to manage fan expectations.

Supporters seem to expect that Lemar will join in the next couple of windows, so it’s probably a smart move not to fuel that hype before anything is agreed with either party.

Either way, Lemar didn’t do his transfer value many favours against Besiktas, as he went off injured in the 26th minute. According to sportwitness.co.uk, Thomas could be set to miss a month of football.

It’s a shame because the winger was just starting to hit his stride for the Ligue 1 side.

In his previous game he’d scored his first goal of the campaign, and had provided an assist a week earlier.

Before that, the French international had only managed two assists in 11 appearances.

Hopefully he recovers as soon as possible, but the injury and loss of form could aid the Gunners in getting a better deal, assuming they are still interested.

We’ll have to wait and see.
