Arsenal are interested in signing Athletic Bilbao keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, according to reports.

The Spanish goalkeeper will be available on a free transfer in June. According to Marca via Sport Witness, Arsenal, Juventus and Real Madrid are interested in signing him.

They claim that Arsenal have made contact through “unofficial intermediaries”. The meaning of that is unclear, but it suggests we do have an interest in the 23-year-old.

Madrid are reportedly willing to pay his £17.6m release clause in January in order to head off any competition. Juventus, meanwhile, see him as a potential replacement for Gianluigi Buffon, despite signing Wojciech Szczesny in the summer.

Arsenal’s goalkeeping situation is far from ideal. Petr Cech is ageing and declining, while back-up choice David Ospina hasn’t been able to provide any sort of competition. Third choice keeper Emi Martinez is on loan at La Liga club Getafe, but has played just one game so far.

Kepa has a growing reputation in Spain after he established himself as Athletic Bilbao’s first-choice keeper last season. He’s made 34 appearances for the first-team, having featured regularly for their second team and on loan.

He was also part of the Spain u21 squad that lost in the finals of the 2017 European Championships.
