Everton are reportedly set to go up against Arsenal for Besiktas midfielder Oğuzhan Özyakup.

Arsenal have been once again linked with a move for their former midfielder, Ozzie, but it seems that they reportedly face competition for the 25-year-old from fellow Premier League side Everton.

The Gunners allegedly want the Turkey international back so he can replace Mesut Ozil, who has under seven months left on his current deal in north London, while the Toffees are apparently seeking a versatile midfielder who doesn’t just play as a no. 10.

Ozzie left Arsenal in 2012 under advice from Robin van Persie. He’d been in the Gunners’ youth squad since 2008 but only ever made one appearance for the first team.

Since leaving for Besiktas, the midfielder has become a highly-rated player, making 147 appearances in the Super Lig, scoring 47 goals and winning the title twice.

This season, Ozzie’s yet to find the back of the net but he’s made 13 appearances over all competitions and assisted twice.

The midfielder has until the end of the season on his current deal so, like Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, it’s not looking likely that he’ll stay at Besiktas. Although, to be fair, bringing Ozzie in on a free to replace the German playmaker feels a bit lazy to me.
