Emile Smith Rowe was back with the Gunners after his World Cup success, as Arsenal beat Wolves 4-2 in the u18 Premier League Cup but it was Tyreece John-Jules that caught the eye.

Smith Rowe was in India celebrating the England u17 World Cup win a week ago, but it was straight back into the action with the Arsenal u18s on his return as the Gunners faced Wolverhampton Wanderers in the second game of the u18 Premier League Cup.

The cup begins with a group stage, and Arsenal have Manchester United, Stoke City and Wolves to compete with to get into the knockout rounds. The group winners and two of the best second placed finishers across the six groups progress, so to be assured of a place in the next round Arsenal have to win the group.

In the first round, the Gunners took a 3-0 lead against Manchester United, before collapsing to lose 4-3. This time the u18s went into the break 4-0 up, after a dominant first half.

Smith Rowe played well on his return, but he wasn’t on the score-sheet on this occasion. Folarin Balogun continued his scoring form by adding another against Wolves; he already has four goals in seven u18 league games.

Tyreece John-Jules is another who can’t stop scoring at the moment, with three goals in three games for the u18s and one in one for the u23s, and he scored a brace in this first-half as well.

Finally, defender Harrison Clarke also got in on the action to leave the Gunners in a commanding position.

Once again, it was a game of two halves as Wolves came back to 4-2 thanks to second half goals from Austin Samuels and Callum Thompson, but this time the Gunners had given themselves enough of a lead that they could close out the match for a win.

Manchester United play Stoke on Sunday in the other group game, so for now the Gunners are top of the group.

Line up: Virginia, Clarke, Thompson, Omole, Ballard, Medley, Saka, Benson, Balogun, John-Jules, Smith Rowe.
