Arsène Wenger says there’s no difference between Olivier Giroud and Alexandre Lacazette, in terms of which players is better for the Arsenal team.

Many fans and pundits have weighed in on the debate about which of the two should get the nod in the big games, but Wenger told SFR Sport via the Standard that it’s not a difficult issue.

“Giroud, Lacazette — it’s a never-ending debate. I think both of them are very good players. For me there’s no difference, and each time it’s very hard to decide who starts.”

So far, Lacazette has been given the nod in the Premier League, with Giroud playing in the Europa League and the League Cup. Both have done well in their respective competitions, with the former scoring five in eight starts and Giroud scoring two in four, as well as one in the league from the bench.

Giroud Laca goals

If the pair can keep that up, then the dilemma over who to start is an easy one for the manager, because he’ll know that whomever he chooses will bring a committed performance and goal threat.

Of course, that relies on Arsenal continuing to progress in the other competitions. If the Gunners were to drop out of the Europa League and the League Cup, suddenly the number of games available goes down drastically, and the decision over who starts any given game becomes all the more important.

The team are in a very commanding position in their European group, so there shouldn’t be too much of an issue there. But every cup game is an opportunity for an exit, so they’ll have to take them all seriously, starting with tonight’s match against Norwich City.
