Arsene Wenger admits that he doesn’t have the foggiest notion as to why Chelsea allowed Eddie Nketiah to leave.

Eddie left Chelsea in 2015 after the London club decided not to sign him to a professional contract. He’d been there since 2008 so it must have been tough to take but Arsenal gave him a trial and wasted no time in tying him down to a deal.

Wenger admits he doesn’t know why Chelsea would let such a player leave.

“I don’t know why Chelsea decided to let him go,” Wenger said post-match.

“You see that more and more these days. Young people going from one club to another.

“I felt I was happy for him and the team. We lacked ideas and clear-cut chances. I was impressed by Norwich in defence.

“I know that he can score goals and that he has character. He is not afraid. He can give and go, and once a player has that in his game, they have a chance.”

Eddie came on in the 85th minute during Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Norwich City on Tuesday night.

The League Cup clash wasn’t going the Gunners’ way. They were 1-0 down with just minutes to go and looked as if they were either completely out of ideas or never had any in the first place.

Eddie, however, scored within 15 seconds of coming on the pitch with his first touch, forcing the tie to extra time where he netted a second.

The 18-year-old has also scored three times for the reserves in Premier League 2 this term and assisted twice.

The teenager obviously has a bright future ahead of him although I’m not sure many predicted he would make such a perfect start to his Arsenal career.

More fool Chelsea.
