Matthew Upson believes Alexis Sanchez has eyes in the back of his head.

The former Arsenal defender was one of many to be impressed by Alexis’ improvisation during the 2-0 victory over Brighton.

Upson wasn’t just focused on the skill itself, but also the way Alexis’ movement into the penalty area attracted several Brighton defenders to him to free up space for the goalscorer, Alex Iwobi.

“It is an outstanding piece of play by Sanchez where he draws the Brighton players in,” Upson told Match of the Day 2.

“All four in the box and they get a little bit attracted to the ball.

“Nevertheless, it was like he had eyes in the back of his head and it’s a phrase you would have to use.

“It is ball watching from Brighton, but take nothing away from the quality of the play and the finish which is exceptional.”

Alexis grew in influence as the game went on and had an excellent second half showing – his best since returning to the first team.

The forward has provided flashes of brilliance since coming back into the team. His goal against Cologne in the Europa League was an outstanding shot from distance, while we saw  against Brighton the menacing dribbler and creator we’ve grown so accustomed to.

With any luck, the goals will start to flow for Alexis the more he plays.

Alexis will now fly out to play for Chile in their World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Brazil.

Chile are currently sixth in the South American qualifying section.

They need to win both games and hope that the teams above them drop points if they’re to have any hope of qualifying for the World Cup this summer.
