Since signing for Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2013, Mesut Ozil has provided more assists than any other Premier League player.
Arsenal fans appear split over Ozil with many calling for the Gunners to cash in on the playmaker in January rather than lose him on a free next summer. However, despite the 28-year-old receiving heavy criticism from the media, he’s still managed to provide more Premier League assists than any other player.
Since moving to north London from Real Madrid in 2013, Ozil has managed to rack up 45 assists. 19 of those were during the 2015/16 season. While he’s yet to score or assist this season, 45 is an impressive tally by anyone’s standards.
In second place with 40 assists is Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen, who signed for Spurs in the same window.
According to the Mirror, Ozil’s also created the most chances.
While stats don’t tell the whole story, they do suggest that more top European clubs should be interested in signing the midfielder. At the moment, Inter Milan, Manchester United, Barcelona and Fenerbahce are the main ones that have been linked.
The latest on the situation is that Ozil’s agent, Erkut Sogut, is apparently feeling positive about talks over a new deal with the Gunners.
“Ozil wants to play another 2-3 years in the Premier League,” he told Turkish outlet Fanatik.
“Talks with Arsenal are ongoing regarding a new deal, what I can say right now is that negotiations are going well.”
However, Arsene Wenger has admitted that it’s ‘possible’ that the 28-year-old could be off in January.
